The Part B giveback

Lost your Part B giveback? Do the math before you chase another one

A Part B premium reduction, often called a giveback, puts money back in your Social Security check each month. In Pasco, about 10,500 of the people whose plan isn’t returning were in giveback PPOs, most of them in two large plans. That’s why so many neighbors in Hudson, New Port Richey and Zephyrhills received letters.

12 plans in Pasco still offer a giveback for 2027. But a giveback plan isn’t automatically the cheapest. The extra money each month can be wiped out by higher copays for specialists, hospital stays or drugs.

Step 1: the giveback

Multiply the monthly reduction by 12. That’s what the plan pays you back in a year.

Step 2: your care

Add up what you’d pay in copays for the visits, scans and drugs you actually use. Ask us for each plan’s numbers.

Step 3: the bad year

Look at the yearly out-of-pocket limit. In Pasco these range from $1,000 to $9,850. A hospital stay can make this the number that matters most.

Hospitals and doctors to check in Pasco

Pasco keeps growing, and so does its hospital list. In 2026 Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital opened at 3000 Wiregrass Ranch Boulevard in Wesley Chapel, with 102 beds and a 29-room emergency department. If it’s now your closest hospital, check whether the 2027 plan you’re considering has it in network.

Many Pasco residents also see specialists in Hillsborough or Pinellas County. Make a list of every doctor and hospital you use, wherever they are, and we’ll check each one.

Questions

Questions from Pasco County residents

Why are so many Pasco giveback plans ending?

Two large PPO plans with a Part B premium reduction aren’t returning in Pasco under the same plan number. Together with smaller plans, about 14,743 Pasco residents are affected, roughly 14% of the county’s Medicare Advantage members.

Are there still giveback plans in Pasco for 2027?

Yes. 12 plans open to everyone in Pasco include a Part B premium reduction in their name. Whether one is right for you depends on your doctors, drugs and how much care you expect to use.

Is a giveback plan always the best deal?

No. Compare the yearly giveback with the copays and out-of-pocket limit. Someone who rarely sees a doctor may come out ahead; someone with regular specialist visits or a hospital stay may not.

Is the new Wiregrass Ranch hospital in my plan’s network?

It depends on the plan. Networks are set by each plan, and a new hospital may be in some 2027 networks and not others. Tell us it’s your preferred hospital and we’ll check.

When does the giveback show up?

When a plan includes a Part B premium reduction, it usually appears as a smaller Part B deduction from your Social Security check, and it can take a few months to start after you join.
