Moved here from Puerto Rico? Medicare works a little differently
Many Kissimmee, Poinciana and St. Cloud families moved from Puerto Rico. Medicare is the same federal program, but in Puerto Rico you have to sign up for Part B yourself; it isn’t automatic as it is in Florida for people already getting Social Security. If you skipped Part B on the island, you may face a late penalty, and you may need it before you can join a Florida plan.
Moving gives you a window
When you move to Florida, you usually get a special chance to join a plan in your new county. Don’t wait for the fall.
Check Part B
Look at your Medicare card. If it shows only Hospital (Part A), call us before choosing a plan.
Medicaid in Florida
Puerto Rico’s Medicaid doesn’t move with you. Apply for Florida Medicaid if you qualify; it opens plans built for people with both.

Plans ending, and higher limits on plans that stayed
About 8,735 Osceola residents are in plans that won’t return under the same plan number: roughly 4,000 in PPO plans, 3,500 in plans for people with Medicare and Medicaid, and about 1,000 in HMO plans. Among the 41 returning plans, 15 raised their yearly out-of-pocket limit, and the typical limit went from $4,200 to $5,600.
Osceola has 45 plans open to anyone and 35 plans for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.
Hospitals near Kissimmee and St. Cloud
Osceola residents use HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, AdventHealth Kissimmee and AdventHealth Celebration, and Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital, and many also see specialists in Orange County. Put every one you use on your list before you compare plans.
Hospitals are named so you know what to check. REMCARE isn’t affiliated with them, and naming them doesn’t mean any plan covers or excludes them.
