If you joined a plan because of diabetes, heart failure or lung disease
Broward’s 2027 changes look different from most of Florida. Of the 13,996 people affected, about 5,200 are in chronic-condition special needs plans, the plans for people with conditions like diabetes, chronic heart failure or cardiovascular disease. One of those plans alone has about 4,800 Broward members. Another 4,500 or so are in regular HMO plans and about 4,100 are in plans for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.
If you’re in a chronic-condition plan, you can join another one only if you still have a qualifying condition and the new plan covers it. Your doctor may need to confirm the diagnosis. The good news: Broward still has several of these plans for 2027.
What to bring
Your letter, your member card, and the name of the condition your plan was built around. A recent list of diagnoses from your doctor helps.
What we check
Whether a 2027 chronic-condition plan covers your condition, keeps your specialists and cardiologist, and covers your medicines and testing supplies.
If none fits
You can choose a regular Medicare Advantage plan or Original Medicare with a Medigap policy and a drug plan. We’ll compare the yearly costs.

What’s new in Broward
Baptist Health broke ground in January 2026 on Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital, the system’s first hospital in Broward. It’s planned to open in summer 2029 with 100 beds and a 30-bed emergency department. Until then, Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System remain the county’s two public hospital systems, alongside private hospitals.

Questions from Broward residents
My chronic-condition plan isn’t coming back in 2027. Can I join another one?
Yes, if you still have a qualifying condition and a 2027 plan in Broward covers it. The new plan may ask your doctor to confirm the condition. If no special plan fits, you can choose a regular Medicare Advantage plan or Original Medicare with a supplement and drug plan.
How many Broward residents are affected for 2027?
About 13,996 people, roughly 6% of Broward’s Medicare Advantage members, are in 2026 plans that aren’t offered in the county in 2027 under the same plan number.
What’s the lowest out-of-pocket limit in Broward?
The lowest yearly out-of-pocket limit among 2027 plans open to everyone in Broward is $750; the highest is $9,850. A low limit matters most if you have a lot of specialist visits or hospital stays.
Can I keep my cardiologist?
Only if they’re in the network of the plan you choose. Give us your cardiologist’s name and practice and we’ll check each plan before you decide.
I spend summers up north. Which plan type works?
If you’re away for months at a time, an HMO usually covers only emergencies and urgent care outside Florida. A PPO or Original Medicare with a Medigap policy can work better. Tell us where you spend the summer.
Does it cost anything to talk to you?
No. Our help is free; we’re paid by the insurance company you choose, and the price of a plan is the same whether you use an agent or not.
